soulja boy claims he is the hottest rapper in the game

January 29, 2008

NEW YORK — Soulja Boy Tell’em’s career is growing by leaps and bounds. One day he put a song called “Crank That” onto the Net, and months later, he’s breaking digital-download records to the tune of 3 million sold.

Now the upstart teen rapper has his eyes on the MTV News hip-hop brain trust’s “Hottest MCs in the Game” list. The next list is on the way soon.

Six months ago, however, when the top 10 was unveiled, SB was only bubbling beneath the surface as his catchy dance number was just breaking through before it eventually turned into a pop phenomenon. But now that he’s got his chops up — including a Grammy nod for Best Rap Song — the Southern rhyme-spitter thinks he’s deserving of a place alongside top-five MCs like Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Actually, he thinks he the #1 slot suits him in particular.

“I think if y’all did it right now, yeah, I deserve to be on there,” SB told MTV News last week. “But back there, when y’all did it, I probably didn’t have the status that I have right now.

“I’m Grammy-nominated,” he continued, citing his credentials. “If I look at the new list and I compare myself to all 10 of the artists and some don’t add up, I’ll be like, ‘Wow. I should be #1 if it’s right now. I’m #1.”

Soulja Boy was more candid when asked how he ranks specifically against alumni of the first Hottest MCs list, like Weezy, ‘Ye and Jay-Z.

“Right now, yes [I'm hotter than them],” he answered as their names were read to him one by one.

He said he is the best-selling online, highest-ranking on the Web and the most publicized rapper worldwide right now.

“Today, January — whatever the date this is — 2008, yes [I am the hottest],” SB emphasized.

While Soulja Boy fully believes in himself, critics say his “ringtone” raps are a part of the problem plaguing hip-hop’s lyrical creativity. However, some pretty big heavyweights from 50 Cent to Nas have co-signed on the young rapper. Soulja Boy also said Busta Rhymes has reached out to work with him. But SB said to give him three or four more years to get his focus on being more lyrical in his tracks.

In the meantime, he sees himself as a pioneer of sorts, opening the door for do-it-yourself acts and artists set on making big dance tracks.

“They’ll say I opened up a lot of doors for people,” Soulja Boy explained. “The first person who started this, what we call hip-hop, opened the door for me. It probably wasn’t a party track or a ‘Crank That,’ it probably was something way, way, way different than what I’m talking about, but he still opened the door for what I’m doing, and if I never would have did this, [the next] wouldn’t come.”

celebrity cars and custom exotics

Celebrities & Cars

In the world of hip-hop, cars maketh the star, and there is no star bigger than 50 Cent at the moment. But ‘Fifty’ ain’t happy with what’s in his garage, and he has plans to turn the car world on its head, literally. 50 Cent is about to make his Rolls-Royce Phantom a drop-top, even before the company does the work for itself…

“I just want something everybody else doesn’t have,” declares the megastar backstage at a one-off UK concert at Rockingham race track. He then unleashes a tidal wave of how and why he is going to butcher his Phantom. “I don’t care if it messes up the electrical system. The roof is gonna be gone. I want something more sporty. I’m not an old man. That’s why I wanna chop the roof off it. I’ll leave the TVs. They had TVs in the package I got. It’s fully loaded. I’ll leave everything that’s in there. I’ll just cut the roof off. Make it into a ‘vertible.”

The man to whom 50 will turn for this ultimate chop-top is Funkmaster Flex, New York car artiste to the rap stars. The Bronx-based customiser, 50 Cent’s motoring mentor and restorer of the singer’s ‘65 Chevy Impala and ‘84 Buick Regal has been trying to talk the megastar out of what some will regard as sacrilege.

“I don’t think is such a good idea and it’s going to end up costing him almost as much as the car,” predicts the host of the ‘Ride With Funkmaster Flex’ cult TV show. Rather than hack the roof off the Phantom, Flex thinks it would be better to try and buy a production example of the stunning 100EX convertible concept car when it goes on sale in 2007. An idea 50 is having none of.

“They won’t give me one,” he tuts with the air of a petulant teenager. “Having me drive a Rolls-Royce is great for [promoting the company], but they don’t see eye to eye with the kid yet.”

50 (I have been warned not to call him Mr. Cent!) is flexing his considerable muscles. Less than three years since being drop-kicked to the top of the hip-hop parade with a plug from Eminem, 50 is enjoying the power of fame and spending a $100 million fortune which would run many a small country.

Fame and fortune has come at a price. In 2000, Curtis James Jackson III was shot outside his grandma’ New York house. Now there are more bullet wounds in his body than fingers on one of his blinged-up diamond-encrusted hands. One 9mm shell even went through his front teeth. Every time he grins I try and spot it. So far I have failed.

Equally well concealed is his body armour. Even in rural England he is wearing it. There is talk he even wears it in bed. Protecting 50’s assets employs a small army. The security detail at Rockingham, where a car has been running in 50 Cent colours, is almost presidential. Even his cars are bomb-proof.”It’s just a precaution that I take. The possibilities are there. If you look at where Biggy Smalls got killed, if you look at where Tupac got killed, if you look at where I got shot at – inside a car,” says 50, rattling off the names of fallen hip hop comrades. “If they’re shooting a person, they’re shooting the car at that point. The glass breaks. If you’re shooting a car you’re not shooting a person. You don’t see a person fall, you know, as you shoot him, so they feel more comfortable doing that. So if you bullet-proof the car you take that option away from them.”

In the world of hip-hop, the bigger and more brash the car, the bigger the star. Massive cars, normally festooned to the hilt, epitomise the stars’ emergence from the ghettos. That’s why most hip hop music videos are teeming with gleaming automobiles.

When 50 and his posse of fellow singers like P Diddy (or Puffy, as 50 calls him) get together, the talk is of cars not rap. Almost without exception, all the major rappers are petrolheads. Wyclef Jean has over $2million-worth of cars. Fifty has spent almost $1million on hot metal… cars which he never gets to drive!

“(The last time I drove) was last year,” he reveals. And it’s not a security issue, either. “I’m usually commuting back and forth long distances, so I got a driver. Someone that I pay that is just there for that. I’ll be in the back asleep while they’re driving the car.”

Time is up, but 50 wants to make one last point about his plans to behead his Phantom. He cannot see why it might upset the purists. He thinks it will create a trend amongst Rolls-Royce’s celebrity owners.

“If I take the Phantom and cut the roof off it, it’s gonna get so much publicity at all the car shows, it’ll be helping Rolls-Royce,” reckons 50. “People like the basketball players or the athletes, the people that got the money to just do it, are gonna go cut the roofs off their cars because 50 Cent cut the roof off his car!”

January 23, 2008

The xbox 360 has outsold the ps3 in sales and now people are taking back their ps3 and getting xbox360’s.There are some people who take apart their video game systems and mod them such as put neon lights and bigger hard drives that aren’t even in stores yet.And this is a fast way to learn how to work with electronics if you ever want to be a person who  makes the proper adjustments to video game systems.
